Java Jam

MIKE AND ANNIE BLAKELY HEADLINE FRIDAY, DEC 7 JAVA JAM CHRISTMAS SPECIAL, 6-9 pm, MILAM STREET COFFEE, WHARTON Heads up Java Jam fans. The Java Jam will be held a little early this month. It’s Christmas time again and Mike Blakely and his talented and lovely wife, Annie, will join in singing harmony on many of the tunes. The first set will be Blakely originals from his former CD’s as well as a few from his most recent release, THE OUTSIDE CIRCLE album. The second set will be traditional Christmas carols with audience sing-a-longs encouraged. A special guest, pianist Sally Soderquist, will also appear in this segment. Mike Blakely, novelist/musician/songwriter from Fredericksburg, will perform at Wharton’s most unique dining/live entertainment venue, The Java Jam, Friday, Dec 7, 6-9 PM, Milam Street Coffee Shop, Wharton, Texas. Open to the public, the process is simple: Bring a covered dish with a little extra to share and $15 per person (except kids are free) for the honor system cover charge. The food is always great and guests may bring their own wine. Blakely, who was reared in Wharton, a graduate of Wharton High, Wharton County Junior College and the University of Texas, continues to leave his creative footprints across the landscapes of Texas, the U.S., and the world, as the author of 20 books and a performing songwriter with ten CD's to his credit. His talents take him to annual concert tours of Europe and the U.S. As a novelist, Mike has enjoyed national distribution, with his books selling in Barnes & Noble, Hastings, Borders, Walmart and independent bookstores everywhere. He is a winner of the Spur Award for Best Western Novel, 2001, “Summer of Pearls,” given annually by Western Writers of America. To quote famed western novelist, Elmer Kelton, “Besides being a fine spinner of tales, Mike Blakely is a poet and musician at heart, which makes his narrative sing and his unusual characters dance their way through the epic story of a changing west.” Blakely has written, in addition to novels, over 500 songs which have caught the attention of artists such as Grammy-winner Flaco Jimenez, Raul Malo (of The Mavericks), Gary P. Nunn, Larry Joe Taylor, Johnny Rodriquez and many others. One of his songs, from his own CD, “Last Comanche Moon” was the number one requested tune for over sixteen weeks over the Americana radio network in America and, of all places, the top English language station in France. One of Mike’s songs, the bi-lingual “Seguro Que Hell Yes” was recently released by Alan Jackson on his new album. Mike Blakely's dual career as a novelist and performing songwriter makes him uniquely qualified for an appearance at venues around the world. Java Jam attendees can expect a sensory filled hour of entertainment from a rare talent, a prolific writer, and an established veteran of the American and European entertainment industry in print, over the airways and on stage. And as usual he’ll hang around for a Christmas Time Song Jam with the Java Jam Band and THE AUDIENCE in the second set. JAVA JAM

"Eclectic Americana Pop Folk with Celtic and Spanish undertones..." Join us on Friday, January 25th in historical downtown Wharton for the most unique musical experience around! Schedule: 6 to 7 pm - Opening Music 7 to 8 pm - Buffet 8 to 9 pm - Second Round of Music What you'll need to enjoy the evening: 1. Bring a covered dish, enough for yourself and a bit extra. 2. Bring your own wine if you wish. 3. $15 per person to help pay for the guest musicians. This is an honor system donation designed to help attract and pay a little gas money to out-of-town musicians. 4. Pick up a free ticket when you arrive for entry into our monthly give-away.

Meet Our Guest Performers: ShAnnie is a duo comprised of Shan Kowert & Annie Acton. They formed in 2005 and in 2007 they released their debut cd, "Water Over Stones", produced by John M. Greenberg, which earned them a nomination for Vocal Duo at the 2008 Texas Music Awards. In 2011 they released their second cd, "The Station" produced by John Inmon, which won ShAnnie "Vocal Duo of the Year" and John Inmon "Producer of the Year." "Eclectic Americana Pop Folk with Celtic and Spanish undertones"... that's what some are saying about the music of ShAnnie. Their voices are clean and soothing but with much fervor, and the music is beautifully accompanied by a 6 or 12 string acoustic guitar or piano. ShAnnie's music is soulful, lyrical and mesmerizing. Annie will captivate you with her dramatic visual performance. It's been said by many that when "Annie sings, you believe." Shan, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist; crosspicks the guitar strings or moves across the piano keys enthusiastically enhancing every song. Whether it is Annie or Shan taking the vocal lead, the other voice is floating around in harmony. The chemistry of these two people will not only lure you in, but keep you wanting more. About the Show: In this riotously funny Southern-fried comedy, the three Verdeen cousins—Gaynelle, Peaches, and Jimmie Wyvette — could not have picked a worse time to throw their family reunion. Their outrageous antics have delighted local gossips in the small town of Sweetgum and the eyes of Texas are upon them. Having “accidentally” crashed her minivan through the bedroom wall of her husband’s girlfriend’s doublewide, Gaynelle is one frazzled nerve away from a spectacular meltdown. Peaches, a saucy firebrand and the number one mortuarial cosmetologist in the tri-county area, is struggling to decide if it’s time to have her long-absent trucker husband declared dead. And Jimmie Wyvette, the rough-around-the-edges store manager of Whatley’s Western Wear, is resorting to extreme measures to outmaneuver a priss-pot neighbor for the affections of Sweetgum’s newest widower. As this fast-paced romp barrels toward its uproarious climax, you’ll wish your own family...  More >>
