Java Jam ft. Glenda Redd and LeRoy Jackson

SINGER GLENDA REDD FEATURED GUEST NEXT JAVA JAM

Singer Glenda Redd accompanied by LeRoy Jackson, both of Bay City, will be featured at the next Java Jam, this Friday, July 26, 6-9 pm, Milam Street Coffee, Wharton. Bring a covered dish with a little extra to share and $15 per person cover charge (kids free) for Wharton’s most unique live music-dining venue. OK to bring your own wine.

Glenda Redd, like most musicians, had an “ah hah” moment for her entrance into the world of music. At age 21 she encountered a life threatening illness and taught herself how to play the guitar as a part of her rehab program. She was raised in a musical family and was familiar with the piano so that was not a daunting task. She also began singing and developed a fan base wherever she has performed over the last 30 years.

A good number of the venues were restaurants, coffee houses and bars. At The Cotton Patch Bar in Orange Grove, Texas, she also was offered a job as manager, working for the famed Baldemar Huerta for several months. You might more readily recognize Baldemar by his stage name, Freddy Fender.

She married fellow musician “Cowboy” Redd, moved to Bay City, and started touring as The Cowboy Redd and Glenda Band. After Cowboy’s untimely passing she occasionally sang with harmonica player LeRoy Jackson’s “Old Timers Band” in Bay City. They have been coming to Java Jam frequently for several years just for the sheer joy of jamming with others in the second set. This will be their first appearance as featured guest performers, fulfilling local fan requests to hear them in a full set of their own. See milamstcoffee.com for Java Jam info and directions.

The Plaza Theatre is featured sponsor this month and will provide special door prizes for lucky winners, including 2 free tickets to Mama Mia, the current play for August, 2 t-shirts, 2 koozies and 2 concession coupons. Everybody has a chance to win since everybody gets a free ticket for the drawing. www.whartonplazatheatre.org has additional info.
