Whether it's the relaxed pace or the unpretentious character, there's just something about small towns that speaks to our soul.  The Wharton Downtown Business Association is launching an effort to rekindle that spirit in downtown Wharton.  Third Thursday Walkabouts begin this week.  Visitors will find opportunities to engage in a game of checkers or 42, scrabble or yahtzee, take in a yoga class, read a book, shop a little, enjoy complimentary wine in select merchant shops, grab a bite to eat at Cuevas' Mexican Food or down the block at Provisions Bistro.  

"Having regularly scheduled activities in the historic downtown district is a goal of our association" said Debbie Cenko, the group's treasurer.  "Our courthouse is a gem in the state, our Plaza Theatre the artistic hub of our community; and unique items in our quaint retail stores fit the desire and needs of locals and visitors alike;" she said, "we hope to see more people visiting our downtown."

The newly formed non-profit seeks to foster the economic, social and civic welfare of the district and hopes everyone will take advantage of an evening of fun and the opportunity to enjoy the many charms at the heart of our community.

Third Thursday Walkabouts are scheduled the third Thursday of each month in downtown Wharton from 4p-7p.  The public is invited to attend.  Parking is free and there is no cost to walk about.
